Leaky pipeline and broken ladder are the metaphors for females dropping out of the education-career-promotion pipeline.
L’Oréal and Harvard project talks about this extensively. According to L’Oréal research, only 3 % of females reach their career top and 97 % of males can reach their optimum levels ( check the first comment box).
There are 11 % female faculty in NIRF’s top 25 institutes including IITs. Only one IIT had a female director.
The lack of female leaders in higher education is concerning. Education has always been androcentric and becoming more so unless we start repairing the leaky pipeline.
The leaky pipeline can be mended from inside n outside. We as a woman need to have no guilt and no regrets, coping mechanisms and shameless exhibition of ambition. The institutes should support and employ, empower and commit to women coming back.
