About

  • Dr. Yug Chandra Saraswat is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Institute of Technology, Nirma University. He obtained his BTech in Chemical Engineering from Nirma University in 2016. He subsequently obtained his MSc in Chemical Process Engineering from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), the Netherlands, in 2018, and his PhD in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University, USA, in 2025. His research interests lie in the broad areas of complex fluids, soft materials, colloidal science and rheology. His doctoral research focused on understanding structure-property relationships in soft materials, including dense colloidal suspensions, particulate gel networks and composite hydrogels. His research combines rheological measurements with microstructural characterisation to investigate phenomena such as yielding, strain softening and stiffening, aging, failure, sedimentation and resuspension. His work has been published in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Advanced Functional Materials, Journal of Rheology, Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Saraswat worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar and as a Process Engineer at the Aditya Birla Fiber Research Center. His research has received recognition from professional organizations including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Society of Rheology. His current research interests include colloidal suspensions, particulate gels, hydrogels, emulsions, biomaterial-based soft materials and suspension stability, with an emphasis on relating material microstructure to rheological and processing behaviour.
