Prof. Sonal Thakkar joined the Civil Engineering Department in 2008 and is working as an Associate Professor in the department. She obtained her Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyla in 1991. She completed Master Degree in Structural Engineering from M.S. University Baroda in 1993. She has completed her Doctoral degree from Nirma University. She has nearly five years of professional experience which includes the design of coatings for the pipeline, quality control of offshore pipelines, design of industrial and residential buildings. She has more than twenty years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has guided more than 21 MTech (CASAD) major projects. She has completed one minor project funded by Nirma University and is pursuing another minor project in area of high strength concrete subjected to fire. She has presented large number of papers in National and International conferences. She has been invited for expert talk among professionals. She is involved in consultancy projects involving concrete mixture design and durability of structures. She was felicitated for guiding Best B Tech Project titled " Effect of alkaline activator on the mechanical strength of geopolymer mortar" at 18th ISTE Students National Annual Convention, 2015. Her areas of interest include sustainable development, alkali-activated concrete, fibre reinforced concrete, performance of structure under high temperature, repair & rehabilitation of structure and high performance concrete.
