About
Dr. Viral Rathod is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Nirma University, Ahmedabad. He received his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Modasa in 2015, M.E. in Power Systems from L. D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad in 2018, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2024. His doctoral research, supported by the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), focused on "Partial Discharge Localization in Power Transformers Using Acoustic and Electromagnetic Time Reversal Techniques". He also received the SERB International Travel Grant during his Ph.D.
Before joining Nirma University, he worked as a System Design Engineer (HVDC) at General Electric Company - GE Vernova, Noida, where he contributed to the Design Specifications of Converter Transformers for global HVDC Projects, and as a Project Engineer at IIT Bombay on Transformer Failure Analysis Studies.
He has published extensively in reputed International Journals articles such as IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, Electric Power Systems Research, and IETE Technical Review, IEEE Conference Papers and holds a Indian Patent Application on Electromagnetic Time Reversal–Based Partial Discharge Localization. He also serves as a Reviewer for leading International Journals and Conferences including IEEE Transactions (TIM, TDEI, TPWRD, TIE, Sensors, Access), IET GTD, Wiley, and Springer. His research interests include Partial Discharge Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis in Transformers, Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics of Electrical Power Apparatus, and High-Voltage Engineering.
