Abstract:
Normally alkali activated concrete uses combination of sodium hydroxide and Sodium silicate as alkaline activators. The normally used alkali activator (NaOH+Na2SiO3) will be replaced by Boroaluminosilicate alkali binders along with fly ash or silica fumes or GGBS and its compressive strength will be evaluated. For this, we will use powder form of borax with solid NaOH to create the alkaline medium for the dissolution of the Al and Si ions. Evaluation of properties like setting time, consistency and compressive strength will be carried out for paste using fly ash or slag as source material.
After evaluation of paste properties, mixture design will be carried out for M 25 grade of concrete. Number of parameters like alkaline ratio, amount of water, amount of source material etc. will be varied. At least 16-20 trial mixtures will be done to carry out this variation. Mechanical properties will be evaluated like compressive strength, flexure strength, split tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.
