Abstract: The scope of the project includes designing a hand held device of the size of a LED torch which has proximity, motion detection and visual sensors embedded in it such that it can detect distance as well as type of obstruction coming in the path of a visually impaired person. The said device will possess image processing capability to identify type of obstruction and give an audio output to the person having the hand held device such that evasive actions by the users can be taken in time. Another aim of the project is to use cost effective, least power consuming controller for better and reliable operation.
