Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University has organized a National Colloquium “Advancements in Seismic Design of Masonry Structures” on 30 – 31 January 2019. The colloquium was coordinated by Prof. Sharad Purohit, Professor, Civil Engineering Department and Prof. Utsav Koshti, Assistant Professor Civil Engineering Department.
The workshop was projected for PG Students, Research Scholars, Faculties from Engineering Institutes, Industry Professionals working in the area of Masonry Structures and Earthquake Engineering.
The Lectures and Hands-on sessions were conducted by Professor Daniel Abrams, Emeritus Professor, Civil Engineering Department, University of Urbana Champaign, U.S.A, and Full Bright Specialist USIEF New Delhi. Prof. K.S.Jagadish, Former Professor, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and Eminent researcher in the field of Masonry Structure. Prof Svetlana Brezev, Professor, Civil Engineering Department in University of British Columbia and Visiting Faculty at IIT Gandhinagar. Prof. Hemant Kaushik, Professor, IIT Guwahati.
Ductile Design of Masonry Buildings, Design and Detailing of Confined Masonry, Containment Reinforcement for Earthquake Resistant Design, Flexibility and Displacement Capacity of Reinforced Brick Wall and Seismic Retrofit of Masonry Buildings, etc. were the major topics covered during this colloquium.
Speakers encouraged the participants to focus on Masonry Structures and motivated to work towards the Masonry Structure and Technological Solutions in rural India.
