As Civilization depends on agriculture, it is important to develop sustainable and beneficial methods to avail most out of it. Better crop production depends mainly on irrigation and type of soil. In a country like India, where there is a shortage of water in most areas it is inevitable to optimally use water resources. Yield of agricultural products maximize in case of optimum water supply. Oversupply as well undersupply both hamper the profitability and sustainability of agricultural activity. An inclusive agricultural support system can prove to be a boon to the sector. An expert system using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is planned to provide efficient irrigation schedule, preventive treatment against possible pathological conditions and profitable crop suggestion. WSN could be the backbone of such agricultural support system due to its low cost, small size, low power consumption, reduced maintenance, great flexibility, portability and scalability features.
