Research title: Biopolymer Multilayer Barrier Films
Name of the funding agency: GUJCOST
Expected research outcomes/results: A multilayer biodegradable polymer barrier film to replace conventional non-biodegradable packaging films for a green and clean environment.
Problem statement and solution- How it will impact the lives of the general public
Problem Statement: Plastics are crude petroleum products and they are non-degradable. The decay of this material is difficult. As the production and use of plastics are very high in comparison to recycle and waste management, it has started creating pollution in the environment. So now it is time to find a similar material which can be easily degradable with equal strength, especially for packaging purposes.
Solution: In this project, we will develop biopolymers for multilayer films including a barrier layer which can be biodegradable as fast as possible.
How it will impact the lives of the general public: With the development of these multilayer biofilms, the impact of synthetic plastic on the environment will be reduced and as the films are biodegradable even recycling is also not needed and it will decompose in the environment.
Quote: “We will develop indigenous biopolymers for multilayer barrier films which will replace the synthetic polymer films.”
