We are thrilled to announce that the EC Dept. Institute of Technology Nirma University has successfully secured a significant research project in the field of VLSI Design and Testing. Titled “Secure and Energy efficient Mixed domain Compute in memory-based AI accelerator Chip for Edge applications”, the project has received a generous funding of INR 3.84 Crores from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
From Nirma University, Dr. Usha Mehta, Professor and Head of EC Dept. Institute of Technology Nirma University, will work as a principal investigator, Dr. Akash Mecwan and Dr. Piyush Bhatasana from EC Dept Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad will work as Co principal investigators in the project. The project is a collaborative project with other prestigious institutions in the west zone of India, including IIT Gandhinagar, SVNIT Surat, and DAIICT Gandhinagar. This consortium approach aims to pool expertise and resources, fostering a collaborative environment conducive to ground-breaking research in VLSI Design and Testing.
Apart from the substantial funding, all participating institutes will gain access to state-of-the-art VLSI Design tools through MeitY, further enhancing the research capabilities of the project. This collaboration is expected to propel advancements in technology and contribute to the skill development of faculty, staff, and students involved in the project.
The project’s primary objective is to deliver a cutting-edge semiconductor chip with applications tailored for Artificial Intelligence. In line with the evolving technological landscape, this initiative aims to address the growing demand for sophisticated hardware solutions in the realm of AI.
Dr. Usha Mehta, Head, EC Department, Nirma University, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “This collaboration signifies a remarkable opportunity for our faculty, staff, and students to excel in VLSI Design, addressing the contemporary needs of the industry.”
